Meanwhile US President Barack Obama met with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House Oval Office in Washington, US. Did the wives speak for as long as their husbands did?

Speaking to Clinton supporters in October, following the release of tapes which showed Trump boasting about grabbing women “by the pussy”, Obama said the tapes had “shaken [her] to [her] core”.

The Washington Post reports that the pair spoke about raising children while they toured the property’s private residence, with Obama hosting the new first lady for tea before they rejoined their husbands.

Barack Obama and Donald Trump spoke for 90 minutes in Thursday’s meeting. “It is important for all of us, regardless of party, regardless of political preferences to now come together, work together,” President Obama told reporters after the meeting.

It is not known whether Mrs Obama and Mrs Trump spoke to each other for the entire hour and a half: Donald Trump told reporters he had only expected his meeting with the president to go for 10-15 minutes.
