Kari Lake, a Trump-backed gubernatorial candidate in Arizona who spent 30 years as a newscaster in Phoenix, ripped the authoritarian left over the issue of free speech during an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
As he introduced the segment, Carlson complimented Lake’s smart defenses of the First Amendment’s speech protections after she has been blasted by the election-stealing deep state and their Democrat lackeys for stating the obvious: Donald Trump was cheated out of another term.
Carlson’s point — and the larger point Lake has been making — is that whether such declarations are ultimately true or not (they are), the ability to offer up the possibility in the first place is speech that is supposedly protected by the U.S. Constitution.
“You’ve described the left’s hypocrisy, and you’ve described that old saying, when they’ve lost the debate, they resort to slander, and that’s what we’re seeing right now,” Lake said.
Carlson responded by noting that he has been following Lake’s campaign somewhat and that she has made several provocative “and in my view true things to say” about issues like immigration, but that her views are dismissed by the mainstream media because she has questioned several aspects of the 2020 election, such as ballot stuffing and using outdated voter registration rolls to pad Biden’s ‘turnout’ (which happened). He went on to note that the same outlets then smear Lake because they don’t want her viewpoints to be heard by millions who would likely agree with her.
“If they are badmouthing me and running hit pieces on me, then they will have to talk about the issues,” she said. “And when you look at our policies — our ‘America First,’ ‘Arizona First’ policies — once they start covering that, it’s game over, we win in a landslide, and then they’re stuck with me for eight years” — two gubernatorial terms, provided she would win reelection in four.
The pair then discussed the fact that Lake’s Democratic opponent, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, won’t agree to debate Lake, citing media reports claiming that she’s an ‘election denier’ and therefore not to be taken seriously.
Lake then dissected Hobbs’ political career in the state, including when she was in the Arizona legislature and voted against policies like a border wall and border security funding, “but yet she did write legislation to start teaching sex education in kindergarten.”
“Her priorities are whacked, and the people of Arizona are really turned off by the fact that she won’t show up for a debate,” Lake said. “It’s a job interview, the people of Arizona are the hiring manager, and we’re showing up for a job interview. You don’t get the job if you don’t show up for the interview. But she knows that she will get roasted on stage because of her background.”
Lake went on to say she gets a “kick” out of seeing red-state governors including the current Arizona chief executive, Doug Ducey, bus or fly migrants to blue cities including Washington, D.C., and Martha’s Vineyard, where the Obamas have a huge mansion. However, she added she’s “not a fan” of the practice because all it does is move people who do not have a legal right to be in the U.S. further into the interior.
In a recent op-ed, Lake laid out her ‘Day 1’ plan to secure Arizona’s border when she takes office.
“Under my ‘Defend Arizona’ plan, Arizona will invoke its inherent authority under Article I of the U.S. Constitution to repel the invasion occurring on our border. The federal government has an obligation under Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution to guarantee protection to the states. However, if Washington refuses to live up to its obligations, Arizona is not bound to simply take the abuse,” she wrote in The Western Journal.
“As governor, I will call for the creation of a compact of like-minded states to secure the border. This compact will establish an interstate commission overseeing joint border security operations comprised of law enforcement resources from member states,” she added.
“The compact will provide for states to not only arrest illegal immigrants crossing into Arizona, but also to return them back across the border. We will keep Washington informed of our efforts, but Arizona will not seek permission to defend ourselves,” Lake continued.
