New York City Mayor Eric Adams warned in a speech on Wednesday, Sept. 6, that illegal immigration and the ongoing migrant crisis “will destroy” the city.
Adams, a Democrat, said this during a town hall meeting Wednesday evening in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan. During his speech, a visibly frustrated Adams warned about how the administration of President Joe Biden is continuing to let tens of thousands of migrants stream into the border and affect the lives of those who live in New York City. “Let me tell you something, New Yorkers: Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this,” he said. “This issue will destroy New York City. We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month. Now again, people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.”
Adams pointed out how the situation the United States is facing has gotten worse in recent months. At first, the illegal immigrants were only coming from Venezuela. But now, Adams has noticed an influx of people from Ecuador, Russia and all over the world.
“Now we’re getting Western Africa, now we’re getting people from all over the globe,” he said. “And everyone is saying, ‘It’s New York City’s problem.'”
“Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut every service in this city is going to be impacted,” he warned. “All of us. It’s going to come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this.”

Adams has repeatedly called on the Biden administration and the state government of New York to provide significant support for New York City to help it navigate the ongoing migrant crisis.
The city has already received about $140 million in federal funding, all of which can only be spent on shelters and other services to house and care for migrants. The White House claims it can’t send any more federal assistance to the state, blaming congressional hurdles for their opposition to spending on illegals.
Adams has also criticized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, calling him a “madman” for busing illegal immigrants from his state to New York and other major cities governed by the Democratic Party. Data shared by the governor notes that he has bused 35,000 migrants out of Texas to sanctuary cities, including 13,000 in New York City alone.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul seems to be going in the opposite direction in terms of policy. Her state government has recently announced a workforce initiative to connect illegal immigrants in the state with employers. She has previously suggested repeatedly that migrants are necessary for employers looking to hire foreign workers.
Hochul has also been lobbying the Biden administration to spend even more to provide for the housing, healthcare and public transit needs of illegals in New York.
