As Texas continues to fight the Biden administration and assert its right to enforce its borders amid a record-setting influx of migrants, several states are pledging their support for the Lone Star State.
One of the first states to stand behind Texas was neighboring Oklahoma, whose Republican governor, Kevin Stitt, made a post on X featuring footage of Texas National Guard troops marching with the caption “Oklahoma stands with Texas.”
His post quickly attracted a slew of comments supporting his stance, with some users asking him to offer the Oklahoma National Guard’s help with Texas’s plight.
Virginia has also expressed support for Texas’s right to defend itself, with Governor Glenn Youngkin posting on X that his state stands with Texas. He added: “@GregAbbott_TX is doing the job Joe Biden and his border czar refuse to do to secure our border. The Biden administration has turned every state into a border state. We must stop the flow of fentanyl, save lives and secure our southern border.”
Kristi Noem, the Republican governor of South Dakota, said on X that Abbott was making the right move, adding that the Biden administration’s policies are putting the American people in danger and compromising national security.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey told Texas they have her state’s support, adding that she has “had enough” of the White House’s handling of the border situation. However, it is not yet clear how her administration plans to back Abbott.
In a video message pledging his support for Texas and Governor Abbott, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said his state supports legal immigration and safe and secure borders, not open border policies that pave the way for human trafficking and drugs to enter the U.S. He added that “states are still sovereign, and we have the right to protect our citizens.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reiterated his support for the Lone Star State as well, offering “personnel and assets” to help Texas defend itself.
He weighed in on X, posting: “If the Constitution really made states powerless to defend themselves against an invasion, it wouldn’t have been ratified in the first place and Texas would have never joined the union when it did. TX is upholding the law while Biden is flouting it.”
Meanwhile, the governor of Montana, Greg Gianforte, said that Abbot is doing what Biden won’t. He called for the southern border to be secured and said Biden’s refusal to act is “inviting cartels, illegal drugs and human trafficking into the United States.”
The U.S. Supreme Court recently issued a decision that sided with the Biden administration’s open border policies, ordering Border Patrol agents to cut down razor wire installed by the state to protect its borders and citizens.
Abbott then released a statement outlining how the Constitution gives Texas the right to defend its sovereignty.
He noted: “The failure of the Biden administration to fulfill the duties by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which reserves to this State the right of self-defense. For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself.”
Texas has doubled down on its border position in response, installing additional razor wire to slow the steady stream of illegal immigrants making their way across the border.
Not surprisingly, many liberal politicians have sided with the Biden administration on this matter, most likely because his open borders policies are adding a considerable number of individuals to the Democrat party’s voter base.
