During the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) “pandemic,” Kamala Harris participated in a virtual chat with several others to discuss the defund the police movement that erupted around that time due to the George Floyd incident. In the interview, which many people missed, Kamala explained why she supports defunding the police.
“We’re trying to, look, part of this movement – and it’s not just a moment; it’s a movement standing on the shoulders of the movements before – part of this has to be about changing the system, rehauling the system, upending the system,” Kamala said about why she wants less public funding to go towards policing.
“And, and, so that piece of it, you’re right: this attorney general, I have no hope for it being implemented, but God-willing he will be out of that office shortly,” she added, referring to then-Attorney General Bill Barr. “And then we need to have a requirement that that office do the right thing going forward.”
When one of the conversation participants then asked Kamala point blank how she feels about defunding the police, here is what she had to say:
“Look, I, I, right, so here’s the thing: defund the police, the issue behind it is that we need to reimagine how we are creating safety. And when you have many cities that have one-third of their entire city budget focused on policing, we know that is not the smart way and the best way, or the right way to achieve safety.”

Kamala revealed next in the chat that she wants to reinvent the status quo, which she says for too long has been centered around the idea that putting more cops on the street equals safety.
“Well, that’s wrong because, by the way, if you want to look at upper-class suburban neighborhoods, they don’t have that patrol car; they don’t have those police walking those streets,” she continued. “But what they do have? They have well-funded schools. What they do have is homeownership, high homeownership rates. What they do have are thriving small businesses. What they do have is access to public health and mental health services.”
Kamala’s reinvented approach would be to redirect public funding towards those things rather than on expanding police forces. She explained that this requires “taking a look at these budgets and figure out whether it reflects the right priorities.”
Kamala’s thoughts about policing run counter to those of Donald Trump who repeatedly pushed a “law and order” mantra throughout his early candidacy and later presidency. “Law and order,” in the context Trump used it, means more police on the streets of America.
“Their plan all along has been to defund and strip the public of all protections and allow illegals to destroy our country,” tweeted the “Right Angle News Network” (@Rightanglenews) X account about Kamala’s plans. “They want to rule over rubble.”
“Harris’s campaign should end right now from this video,” added another, called “RedWave Press” (@RedWave_Press). “She doesn’t believe in law and order.”
Others wrote that they feel as though Kamala “hates the police,” especially since she supported the Black Lives Matter (BLM) riots – check out what she said to Stephen Colbert back in 2020 about this:
