A pet project by establishment RINO (Republican in name only) Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) that aims to silence all “disinformation” from foreign actors such as Russia is slated for closure now that Donald Trump is about to reenter the White House.
The so-called Global Engagement Center (GEC), a “disinformation” project from Cornyn that emerged pretty much right alongside Trump as he made his entrance onto the political stage back in 2016.
The stated purpose of the GEC is to stamp out all “foreign disinformation” that interferes with the official narratives of the U.S. government. Elon Musk, however, thinks that the GEC is a front group trying to control what gets shared and spread on social media under the guise of preserving “the truth.”
The Wall Street Journal dropped the bombshell on Cornyn in announcing that the GEC will likely be toast before the start of 2025. It is backed by Army Gen. Paul Nakasone, the former head of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the U.S. Cyber Command, who says it is necessary to stop foreign disinformation plots.
Electric vehicle (EV), space and cryptocurrency enthusiast Elon Musk conversely says that the GEC needs to go. He is slated to lead a new commission created by Trump that aims to massively slash government bureaucracy and spending.

Since the very beginning, Cornyn was a never-Trumper. He and the other usual suspects, i.e., Mitch McConnell, appear to be working with Democrats to crack down on the First Amendment through anti-disinformation schemes like the GEC.
Politico reports that the GEC’s congressional authorization is set to expire at the end of 2024. It more than likely will not be renewed because the incoming administration and Congress are committed to ending government censorship.
Had Democrats won on Election Day, the GEC would be safe and secure. However, because Republicans now control all three branches of government, the GEC is as good as gone.
“[The GEC] has played an indispensable role in combating Russian and Chinese disinformation,” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), one of the politicians behind the GEC’s creation in 2016.
Along with Cornyn, Murphy is now leading an effort to save the GEC from being eliminated.
“It would unnecessarily undermine U.S. national security if we eliminated this tool,” Murphy claimed about what letting the GEC’s congressional authorization expire at the end of the year will do.
Along with wanting him to abolish the GEC, supporters of Trump also want him to terminate the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act on day one of his second term. They also want him to stop Mike Pompeo from weaseling his way back into Washington to expand the censorship industrial complex.
“Pompeo ratcheted it up further when he left the CIA for State,” tweeted John Cullen (@I_Am_JohnCullen) about how the GEC is part of the State Department that Pompeo led under Trump during the president-elect’s first term.

“No government agency should be in the business of policing speech,” added Andrew Ferguson, commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
“Nebulous terms like ‘misinformation,’ ‘disinformation,’ and ‘malinformation,’ really mean any speech which goes against the elite consensus in D.C. and Silicon Valley.”
