A second woman has leveled charges of sexual misconduct against Democratic Sen. Al Franken, becoming the latest in a growing list, but this time members of his party have been silent about them.
As reported by The Daily Caller, 33-year-old Texas resident Lindsay Menz said that Franken grabbed her buttocks during a photo op at the Minnesota State Fair in 2010, the first accusation to be leveled against him while he was a sitting senator.
Last week, sports news anchor Leeann Tweeden accused him of kissing her forcefully and groping her during a USO tour to the Middle East in 2006.
In an interview with CNN, Menz said she went to the fair with her father and husband, as her dad’s small business was the sponsor of a local radio booth. She said that she spent the day snapping pictures with elected officials, celebrities and political candidates as they stopped by the booth.
As Franken approached the radio booth, she said she recognized him right away and engaged him in a short conversation. When Menz’s husband went to take a picture of his wife and the sitting senator, she said that Franken “pulled me in really close, like awkward close, and as my husband took the picture, he put his hand full-fledged on my rear.”
She added: “It was tightly wrapped around my butt cheek.”
Menz’s husband, Jeremy, said he remembers Franken getting very close to his bride (and the picture he took confirms that) during the photo op but added he couldn’t see what was going on behind her.
“He reached around her and kind of pulled her into him,” said Jeremy. “He pulled her in and pushed his head against her. It was over pretty quick.”
As Lindsay walked away from Franked, she said she told her husband that Franken “totally grabbed my butt.” Jeremy said he remembers her saying exactly that.
For his part Franken, like he did with the Tweeden incident, said he doesn’t remember the incident in the same way.
“I take thousands of photos at the state fair surrounded by hundreds of people, and I certainly don’t remember taking this picture,” he said. “I feel badly that Ms. Menz came away from our interaction feeling disrespected.”
Lindsay Menz went on to say that she “felt gross” after the encounter. “It’d be like walking through the mall and some random person grabbing your butt. You just feel gross. Like, ew, I want to wash that off me,” she added further.
After she posted the photo on her Facebook page, her sister jokingly commented that the two of them weren’t “Bible width” apart. Menz responded to the comment, “Dude — Al Franken TOTALLY molested me! Creeper!” (Related: Female Dem senator critical of Al Franken campaigned on behalf of lecherous Ted Kennedy.)
Franken told CNN that he didn’t recall the interaction with Menz, but that he felt “badly” if he was offensive to her.
But Menz was adamant about Franken’s hand placement. “It wasn’t around my waist. It wasn’t around my hip or side. It was definitely on my butt. I was like, ‘Oh my God, what’s’ happening?’”
And while this latest charge against Franken should draw universal condemnation from members of both parties, Franken’s party — the Democrats — are being so silent about the new accusations that even the reliably Left-leaning Associated Press has noticed, reporting:
With the Capitol empty due to Thanksgiving break, reaction to the latest allegation against Franken were muted compared to an outcry last week — and Democrats nationally and in Minnesota were silent.
Some things — like Democratic hypocrisy — never change.
