Earlier this week, Americans who have watched associates of President Donald Trump and members of his 2016 campaign mauled by the deep state that continues to this day to try to get rid of him were appalled — again — to learn that the federal prosecutors in Roger Stone’s case were recommending he get nearly a decade in prison.
According to reports, the four prosecutors who handled the Stone case filed papers with the federal court handling it, informing the judge they were leaving it. One of them quit the Justice Department; another was a prosecutor who worked for special counsel Robert Mueller.
Mueller’s team was the one that brought the charges against Stone in the first place. No bias there.
As noted by Breitbart News’ John Nolte, Stone was found guilty of lying to Congress — something ranking Obama administration intelligence officials did regularly — interfering with a House investigation into the Russian collusion hoax, and “witness tampering.”
The witness tampering allegation related to Stone’s ‘intimidation’ of talk radio host Randy Credico — who has essentially laughed off the allegation. He said, “I never in any way felt that Stone himself posed a physical threat to me or my dog.”
Hardly. Stone is 70 years old and no master at Ju Jitsu or MMA.
But the four prosecutors actually recommended that Stone be imprisoned for between seven and nine years. As Nolte notes, it’s an absurd amount of time:
Seven to nine years for “obstructing” a witch hunt, for lying to Congress, something you never see prosecuted despite a multitude of transgressors, and for tampering with a witness who says he wasn’t really tampered with.
An injustice if there ever was one. And the Trump administration, as well as the president himself, wouldn’t stand for it. So Attorney General William Barr intervened; the Justice Department refiled a sentencing recommendation that was for far less time, and now the judge, Amy Berman Jackson, will have to decide.
Now, despite what you may think of Stone, the fact that he’s going to jail and these politically tainted prosecutors were trying to put him away for what may effectively be the remainder of his useful life is a crime in and of itself.
Recall that, for instance, none of these fools raised a finger, let alone an eyebrow, when former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper lied to Congress in front of the entire world. Not only wasn’t he charged for that crime, he wasn’t even fired by President Obama.
Nolte noted further:
Hey, I’m no Roger Stone fan, and it actually sounds like he deserves some prison time, but there are murderers and rapists and child molesters who don’t serve seven to nine years.
This sentencing recommendation is not only outrageous, it’s a retaliatory and partisan abuse of power on behalf of four utterly corrupt and inhumane prosecutors.
Thank the Good Lord they have resigned.
There aren’t many federal positions that hold as much power as a federal prosecutor, so it’s good that these partisan hacks have moved on.
But this federal prosecutorial abuse is nothing new. Sidney Powell, a former federal prosecutor-turned-whistleblower, has seen it for years.
Powell, currently the lead attorney representing another mightily abused Trump official, retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the president’s first national security adviser, has long criticized the Justice Department and in particular prosecutors who worked for Mueller, including lead attorney Andrew Weissman.
In taking Flynn’s case, she told Politico, “I don’t know how, but I can read the way these particular government lawyers say things to know that they are lying and hiding things. And I knew as soon as I started hearing and seeing what was going on with General Flynn that he had been set up.”
Roger Stone deserves better — and so do the American people.
