Former President Donald Trump wants to finish what he started in 2016 and build America up again. He made his intentions known during the recently-concluded Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland, outlining his agenda for his 2024 presidential run.
Jeremy Sandberg, reporting for NTD, noted that Trump predicted that the United States is on a dangerous trajectory unless something changes soon. (Related: Trump planning to run again in 2024; releases campaign ad promoting his America First domestic energy platform.)
“In 2016, I declared: I am your voice,” said Trump during his CPAC speech. “Today, I add: I am your warrior. I am your justice. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed: I am your retribution.”
Trump added that sinister forces are working tirelessly to stop him, silence the American public that supports him and turn the nation into a “socialist dumping ground for criminals, junkies, Marxists, thugs, radicals and dangerous refugees that no other country wants.”
“We are going to finish what we started. We started something that was a miracle. We’re going to complete the mission. We’re going to see this battle through to ultimate victory. We’re going to make America great again,” said Trump.
“With you at my side, we will demolish the Deep State. We will expel the warmongers,” he added. “We will drive out the globalists. We will cast out the communists. We will throw off the political class that hates our country… We will beat the Democrats. We will rout the fake news media. We will expose and appropriately deal with the RINOS. We will evict Joe Biden from the White House, and we will liberate America from these villains and scoundrels once and for all.”
Trump likened the 2024 election to “the final battle.”
“Either they win or we win. And if they win, we no longer have a country,” he warned.
In a straw poll conducted at CPAC by conference organizers on over 2,000 participating attendees, 62 percent of the respondents said they want Trump to be the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has yet to declare whether he will attempt to run for the GOP’s nomination, came in as a second choice with 20 percent support. Businessman Perry Johnson, who attempted to run for governor in Michigan, but failed to participate in the Republican primary, got a five percent support.
The Republican Party’s preferred vice presidential pick is a lot more divided. Arizona gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake received the most support at 20 percent and DeSantis followed closely at 14 percent.
Straw polls conducted in previous CPAC conferences in Dallas and Orlando last year also showed that Trump still had the overwhelming support of Republicans, with 69 percent and 59 percent, respectively, voting in favor of nominating the former president.
These three polls show that Trump, who launched his 2024 bid last November, remains the most popular and influential person within the GOP more than two years after leaving the White House.
“The agenda I’ve laid out today will end America’s destruction, but it is not enough just to stop the forces tearing America down,” said Trump at CPAC. “I want once again to build America up. We have to build our country.”
