Former President Donald Trump lauded the Michigan Supreme Court’s (MSC) decision to reject an appeal that would take him off the state’s primary ballot over alleged violations of the Fourteenth Amendment.
“The MSC has strongly and rightfully denied the desperate Democratic attempt to take the leading [Republican] candidate in the 2024 presidential election, me, off the ballot in the great state of Michigan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This pathetic gambit to rig the election has failed all across the country, including in states that have historically leaned heavily toward the Democrats.”
On Dec. 27, MSC Associate Justice Elizabeth Welch rejected an appeal lodged by the watchdog group Free Speech For People (FSFP) on behalf of a group of Michigan voters. FSFP argued in its lawsuit that Trump should be removed from the state’s ballot over his alleged role in the false-flag Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Welch’s decision upheld a Michigan Court of Appeals (MCA) ruling earlier in December that threw out a similar appeal FSFP filed.
“Who to place on the primary ballot is determined by the political parties and the individual candidates,” the MCA ruled on Dec. 15. “It would be improper to decide whether to grant a declaration that Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president … at this time.”
“At the moment, the only event about to occur is the presidential primary election. But as explained, whether Trump is disqualified is irrelevant to his placement on that particular ballot. Thus, with respect to the presidential primary election – there is no actual controversy as the only purported basis for removing Trump from the presidential primary ballot would not be a sufficient basis for removal of [his] name from [the latter].”
Welch’s Dec. 27 ruling compared the MSC to the Colorado Supreme Court (CSC). She wrote that FSFP has “identified no analogous provision in the Michigan Election Law that requires someone seeking the [presidency] … attest to their legal qualification to hold the office.”
The magistrate referenced the CSC’s earlier ruling to remove Trump from the state’s primary ballot. According to the Colorado high court, Trump allegedly violated Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment that prohibits a person from taking office again if they participated in insurrection. However, reports have revealed that Trump was actually dissuading people from violence; federal agents planted among the J6 rioters goaded the legitimate protesters into breaking into the Capitol.
“Colorado is the only state to have fallen prey to the scheme,” the former president lamented. “That 4-3 CSC decision, which they themselves stayed – thus keeping me on the ballot as we go up to the U.S. Supreme Court – is being ridiculed and mocked all over the world.” (Related: Bukele says, thanks to Colorado banning Trump, the US lost its ability to lecture anyone about “democracy”…)
The real estate mogul-turned-chief executive ultimately warned Americans that the stolen 2020 elections that put incumbent President Joe Biden in the White House could happen once more.
“We have to prevent the 2024 [presidential] election from being rigged and stolen like they stole 2020,” Trump wrote. “Just look at the complete mess we have as a result [of] Crooked Joe Biden violently destroying everything in his sight, from our once-great economy to our once-fair justice system. We have to save our country from decline and the radical left; Make America Great Again.”
