Former President Donald Trump has once again promised to bring the Russia-Ukraine war to an end – this time before taking office as president-elect.
He made this promise during an X Spaces conversation with cryptocurrency enthusiast Farokh Sarmad. The Sept. 16 interview marked Trump’s first appearance since the second attempt on his life. A day before, Secret Service agents managed to prevent Ryan Wesley Routh from shooting Trump while the former president was playing golf.
“I want to get Russia to settle up with Ukraine and stop this. Millions of people [are] being killed, far greater than the number you read about. But I want to get that done before I even take office,” Trump told Sarmad.
“I want to get that done as president-elect because it has to be solved. Too many people [are] dying, too many cities are just in rubble right now, you look at the cultures just being destroyed. We’ve got to get that done, and I’ll get it done.”
However, Modernity News pointed out that while Trump’s intentions are noble, the Logan Act could prevent him from doing so. Under the 1799 federal law, the former president cannot serve as a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow as the Act “forbids private citizens from engaging in unauthorized correspondence with foreign governments.”
During the same X Spaces conversation, Trump also took swipes at President Joe Biden. He reiterated that the world’s precarious geopolitical situation wouldn’t have happened had the Democratic incumbent not stolen the 2020 election.
“There wouldn’t have been an Oct. 7, there wouldn’t have been Russia attacking Ukraine, there wouldn’t be inflation, all this inflation which has hurt people so badly. You wouldn’t have had that horrible type of withdrawal. We were getting out of Afghanistan but with dignity and strength. That [withdrawal under Biden] was the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country,” said the former president.
“Frankly, Russia would never have gone into Ukraine if it weren’t for that. They looked at that and said, ‘This country is no longer run by Trump. This country is run by stupid people.'” (Related: Trump: Biden’s INCOMPETENCE leading the U.S. to WWIII.)
“The Ukraine conflict shows no signs of moving toward resolution after two and a half years, and the Biden-Harris administration has not attempted to push for any kind of peace talks,” Modernity News noted. “Indeed, the likely to be sanctioned use of U.S. weapons by Ukraine for attacks inside Russia is certain to escalate the situation.”
Last July, Trump sat down with Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo on her program “Sunday Morning Futures.” During his appearance on the program, he expounded on his plan to end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. Trump claimed that he knows both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin “very well” – something he plans to make use of when both parties sit down and talk.
“I know Zelensky very well, and I know Putin very well – even better. And I had a good relationship, very good, with both of them,” he said.
“I would tell Zelensky, ‘No more. You got to make a deal.’ I would tell Putin, ‘If you don’t make a deal, we’re going to give him a lot. We’re going to [give Ukraine] more than they ever got of we have to.’ I will have the deal done in one day – one day.”
The former president also told Bartiromo that Biden is not capable of dealing with world leaders. “These people are sharp, tough and generally vicious. They’re vicious, and they’re at the top of their game,” Trump said.
“We have a man that has no clue what’s happening. It’s the most dangerous time in the history of our country.”
